A URL is the Necessary Network Description for any resource connected to the web. If you have been Surfing the Web. You have undoubtedly heard the term URL and have used URLs to access HTML pages from the Web.URLs are used to write links liking one page to another.

A URL had two Main Peripheral

  • Resource Name: For the URL

Example: http://exampledotcom, the resources name is example dot com

  • Protocol Identifier: For the URL

Example: http://exampledotcom, the protocol identifier is HTTP

URL is an Acronym for Uniform Resources Locator and is a reference to a Resources on the Internet

The Resources name contains one or more of the following factors

  • Host Name

The Name of the Machine on which the resources lives

  • Port Number

The Port Number to which to connect (typically optional)

  • File Name

The PathName to the File on the Machine

  • Reference

A Reference to a named anchor within a resource that usually identification within a file
